Another new fish on the list

Our first fishing experience at Sabai Sabai Fishing Park had been very positive and so we decided to return yesterday to see if we could continue with our success. After arriving at 9 o'clock in the morning we chose a shelter at the far end of the lake, and assembled our tackle. Immediately the first rod was cast in, baited with bread, it became apparent that we'd be having a busy day. In the next ninety minutes we caught over 100 fish, mainly tilapia and most of them about 300-400 grams. Amongst the tilapia was the occasional pacu of 1 to 1.5 kilos, but we eventually got fed up and decided to change tactics. I changed from float fishing to legering with a 40 gram lead weight and big hook on which I baited with a small roll of pork fat, whilst my friend put on a big float and fished a large prawn 40 cm below the surface.

For me, the number of tilapia I caught was now significantly reduced, but I caught some pacus up to 2 kg. My colleague also caught some pacu, and then changed methods again to now fishing the shrimp on the bottom. A short time later he then captured, the "new" for our list :

The marbled goby was released after the photo session was complete. We caught further Pacus, more tilapia and a walking catfish. We took home one 2 kg Pacu, 6 tilapia and the catfish for dinner for our eagerly awaiting wives. A successful day at the park, but next time we will come up with another new strategy - so that our trips there don't degenerate into hard work! :-)
