Fishing in Pattaya - the Pattaya Fishing Park

When we arrived at 10.00 clock in the morning we were greeted by a Pattaya Fishing Park staff member with red eyes and a bottle of beer in his hand. When we asked what the cost for fishing is and what you can expect to catch we were told 400 baht and pla buek - that is the giant Mekong catfish. Okay, we thought, and went to fetch our equipment and bait to use to the lake. When we started to prepare our ground bait another employee came up to us with the information that you couldn't use your own bait because the park sells its own. They did, however, make an exception in our case as they had run out of bait themselves, and weren't expecting a delivery until that afternoon!

The fishing proved to be very successful though, the lake is full of giant Mekong catfish, which can be caught up to about 45kg. The fish we caught weighed 15 to 20 kg. The lake is sufficiently large, reasonably well maintained, but unfortunately you are only allowed to fish from one bank. Oh well, these are their rules and so we endured the chaos caused by many crossed lines with a Thai smile.

When, later in the afternoon, the manager of the business introduced himself to us and gave us to understand that he was pissed the night before, and therefore couldn't start work that morning. Conclusion: The lake is full of fish, the staff full of alcohol.
