National Elephant Day in Thailand

In May 1998 the Thai Cabinet decided to honor the elephant, the National Symbol of Thailand, with a holiday. This is celebrated every year on the 13th of March. Particularly in the elephant camps in northern Thailand, on this day the beasts are especially cherished.
