Fishing in Udon Thani
Fishing in Thailand is a popular pastime, and there are several commercial fishing venues in the vicinity of Udon Thani. We have visited these ponds and have collated the relevant fishing information, such as fish stocks, prices, facilities as well as location.
These are the lakes we visited:
One should not have too high expectations when fishing the commercial waters around Udon! Those who feel at home on manicured fishing lakes in a paradise of peace and quiet will often be disappointed when they visit most of these venues. Unfortunately, many of the proprietors don't seem to bother to make the venues more than a breeding pool for the fish. Thus, the vegetation around the lakes and the bankside areas are quite barren and dirty, but the fishing is usually quite good. Many Thais seem to measure success in more weight or numbers of fish caught, whilst the average farang angler wouldn't neccessarily consider a blank day to be unsuccessful. This of course raises the question of why we bother to write at all about the commercial waters, aren't there any non-commercial waters? Of course there are! We will soon be writing a new article on this subject!
To add to the topic of fishing in Udon Thani and to provide information to the angler on some of the waters outside the area, we have created a new article 'Fishing in Thailand'. This is constantly being updated as we receive more information. Find photos and information about the fish that can be caught in Thailand in our article 'fish in Thailand'.

It is on the 228 just past Natapong pig farm. It is on the left side and has a big grass slope.
It is not officially open till August but feel free to pop over for a days free fishing before if you like, bring a brolly for shade as we are still waiting for salas
Thanks, Ian, for this info. We would like to visit the place. On which road is the lake located? Can you give us some more details so we don't have to search around long time, please.
Cheers!
Flo
