Mother-to-child HIV transmission rate falls to 1.3%

The HIV transmission rate from mother to child during pregnancy this year has fallen to 1.3% of infected mums, the Department of Health (DoH) said on Monday. Speaking ahead of World Aids Day on Tuesday, acting DoH director-general, Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, said the department's Perinatal HIV Intervention Monitoring System (PHIMS) had recorded a 1.3% mother-to-child transmission rate, down from 1.9% in 2015.
