Tourist Arrivals to Plunge 80% This Year Due to COVID-19

BANGKOK (Xinhua) — The Tourism Council of Thailand on Tuesday said it expects to see only an estimated 8 million foreign tourists this year, 80 percent down from last year, due to the impact from COVID-19 and air travel restrictions worldwide. “However, we are confident that tourism in Thailand will begin to pick up in 2021,” said Chairat Triratanajaraspon, the council’s president.

NACC wants Yingluck put on trial for 'unfair' Thawil transfer

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) wants to bring another case against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions, after deciding she abused her power by unfairly ordering the transfer of Thawil Pliansri, then secretary-general of the National Security Council, to an inactive post in 2011.

Hospital quarantine facilities being readied for medical tourists

New in-hospital quarantine facilities are being prepared to allow uninterrupted treatment for medical tourists, according to the Public Health Ministry. Tares Krassanairawiwong, director-general of the Department of Health Service Support, said on Tuesday that a medical hub committee chaired by Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn resolved to prepare such facilities for Thais overseas and foreigners wanting medical treatment in Thailand.

Accused sex-trade procurer arrested

A woman accused of procuring young girls for the flesh trade in Ratchaburi province for 10 years has been arrested in Samut Songkram province. Police took Sasirat Wongkaew, 40, into custody at a house in Samut Songkhram’s Amphawa district on Monday, Pol Col Apisant Chairat, superintendent of Human Trafficking Suppression Division 5, said on Tuesday.
